Building Capacities to Integrate Water Resources Planning into Agricultural
Development [Cambodia]
The Cambodian NAPA recognizes that the impacts of climate change on Cambodian
food production and security in rural areas, especially on rice cultivation,
is projected to be serious. The aim of Building Capacities to Integrate
Water Resources Planning in Agricultural Development project is based on
tackling climate change-resilient agricultural water management and supports
four outcomes:
- (a) Development of expertise of district agricultural extension teams in adapting to climate risks in water management.
(b) Training Commune Councils and Planning and Budgeting Committees (PBCs) and key stakeholders at the community level such as religious leaders and indigenous elders to support adaptation planning processes. - Improvement of overall access to water by demonstration of climate-resilient rainwater harvesting techniques at both the household and village level and by diversifying the sources of water used for agriculture, sanitation and consumption.
- Enhancement of fish stocks management in order to maintain the capacity to adapt to future climatic conditions through participatory breeding:
- adapting the technical elements of SRI
- introducing modifications to reduce the potential for soil erosion
- promoting the maintenance of higher levels of genetics diversity within crops
- Replication of experiences from the target districts in other parts of the country and incorporation of a significant learning component.
