Adaptation in the Pangani River Basin [Tanzania]
The Adaptation in the Pangani River Basin project is aimed to contribute to management and allocation of water in Pangani Basin including climate change preparation and adaptation and environmental considerations in a sound Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) framework. This first field-based climate change project in Eastern Africa has firm links to basin and national policy planning, and expected to establish national and regional capacities and provide lessons as an example of good practice. It tackles three technical areas for achieving its goal:
  • Understanding current and future climatic vulnerability by developing and utilizing information for equitable water allocation in a changing hydrological regime.
  • Continuation of dialogues on minimizing future climatic risks and vulnerability and on sustainable water resources management.
  • Integrating adaptation to climate change into the water sector through national lessons learned.
