GENERAL

Information

The Climate Division is one of the two output divisions of the Fiji Meteorological Service, the other being the Forecasting Division. It is divided into two main sections, namely Scientific and Technical.

It is housed on the Ground Floor of the FMS building within the Civil Aviation compound, along Korowai Rd. in Namaka, Nadi.

Staffing

There are 5 permanent staff members of the Climate Division. The Scientific section has two officers who are responsible for all projects, surveys and research that affects the climate of Fiji.

The Technical section has three officers who are responsible for the collection and collating of data from the data collecting stations around Fiji. An additional task for this group is to look after the IT part of the Division.

Station Network

The National Climate Network (NCN) comprises about 70 stations scattered around the Fiji Islands. Of these some are:

  1. Rainfall stations - only rainfall data
  2. Synoptic stations - caters for all relevant weather data
  3. Climate stations - dedicated climate stations and report climate readings every 9am (FST).
